CC Finance: Experts in the care sector

What does the registration process involve?

Post the Care Standards Act 2000 any provider of health and social care services must be approved and registered with the CSCI. Be prepared for what will seem to be a lengthy approval time, there is a lot of information required all of which will be thoroughly vetted.

From submission to approval can take up to 12 weeks.

Step 1. Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Check

The Commission requires you to submit a Criminal Records Bureau check with your application. The CRB will carry out Police, Department of Health and Department of Education and Skills checks. The appropriate application form will be supplied with the pack, and when completed needs to be countersigned by the relevant local office who will forward it to the CRB. Both you and the CSCI office will receive a copy of the report.

Step 2. Filling in the Forms

You will not be surprised to learn that the application pack is substantial. Now is the time to enlist the vendors help, as you will need to detail a complete overview of the premises, listing members of staff and even detailing the residents room sizes. You can not be expected to have this information at this point hence another visit to the home and the co-operation of the vendor will be required.

Step 3: References

With your application you must submit medical and financial references. Details of the correct format are detailed in the pack.

Step 4: The Check List

  1. Thoroughly check the application form. Iif you are at all unsure, we can provide a checking service for you.
  2. You have included :-
  • The Criminal Bureaus Report
  • Doctors report
  • Financial report
  • The appropriate registration fee/s (usually £2,186 with an additional £596 for a managers application)

Step 5: the 'Fit Persons' Interview

Once all the above has been satisfactorily assessed, it is normal that you will be required to have a Fit Persons Interview. This is the point where it is down to you and your knowledge of the sector. The interviewers will expect that you demonstrate a full command of the National Minimum Standards Care Act as well as the Care Standards Act. They will discuss your background, your interest in the sector and will want to be comfortable that you have a full understanding of all aspects of the business. This meeting should be the end of the application process, and generally post the interview you are informed quite quickly of the outcome.

And that's it!
